Boston Globe Columnist Alex Beam Says You Don’t Really Want to Move to Canada
Boston Globe’s Ling/Arts Columnist notes the the sudden interest among disillusioned American left-wingers in moving to Canada. Hold your horses, is Beam’s advice:
It sounds so alluring. Good beer. Cheap Viagra. Hardly any crime. Friendly, if somewhat ineffectual, people. Terrific, if underappreciated, novelists. (This means you, Rohinton Mistry.) Secure borders, courtesy of the US Department of Defense.
But before you pack, consider this: There are plenty of reasons not to move to Canada. Let me count the ways.
There’s no reason you should trust me more than Beam, but…Beam’s right. America is better, and not just a little bit better. Oh, btw, Canada, you’re way over your “Mentioned in the news”-quota for the decade. Please go way now. It’s aboot time, ‘ey?
