Malaysia extends amnesty for illegal aliens in response to tsunami disaster

Malaysia has extended the deadline for illegal aliens to leave the country from December 31 to January 31 after a request from tsunami-stricken Indonesia. There are an estimated one million or so illegal aliens in Malaysia, most of them from Indonesia. The Malaysian government has been planning a mass deportation of illegals for quite some time, and claims that more than 200,000 illegal aliens have left the country voluntarily during the amnesty period, orginially set to expire on November 14.
