Pete Carroll’s Trojans, jacked and pumped and a little bit dangerous

USC Trojans stomped Oklahoma Sooners into the ground, 55-19 in the Orange Bowl, this year’s final game in the Championship Bowl Series. I’m not going to pretend that I had expected a blowout, but I figured the Trojans were going to win, and, really, an out of hand score isn’t all that shocking for a big game after a long break.

It was interesting to watch the Trojans fall behind early and then, slowly but surely, gain control of the game, picking apart the fading Sooners. The Trojans were marginally better than the Sooners across the board, paving way for the lopsided score.

Would the Auburn Tigers have stood a better chance against the mighty Trojans? Yes, and they should have been given it. Since I’m not in favor of a playoff system for NCAA Division 1A football I don’t have too much of a problem with the BCS, however, it seems to me that the Big XII is consistently overrated while the signifcantly tougher SEC is underrated.

My favorite moment of the bowl season was Iowa’s insane, last second, 56-yard touchdown pass against LSU in the Capital One Bowl. The catch-and-run for six game-winning points was hauled in by a fifth-year senior who had never before scored a touchdown for the Hawkeyes. Now that’s the way to end your college career.
