We won. Time to come home.
I not only supported the war in Iraq, I demanded it. And I got it, and we won, and now it’s time to pull out the bulk of our forces from Iraq. If the Iraqis truly demonstrated their committment to democracy in the February election, as the White House claims, then our job is done. The fight that remains is for the Iraqis to fight. It can’t possible be our role to fight a guerilla war against a minority of Iraqis (and a small one, at that) while most Iraqis twiddle their thumbs and wait to see how things work out. No way, Jose. It’s time for the Iraqis to step up to the plate and do their own batting. Look, the Finns got help from Kaiser-German army rangers and Swedish volunteers when they kicked out the Russians and utterly destroyed a communist coup attempt in 1918, but they did it in a matter of a few months. The Iraqis need to rally around their own Al-Mannerheim and do their own heavy lifting.
