Snapshots of life in the city

That’s the most pretentious headline I’ve ever written.

The Davis Square T-station is having some issues these days. It was reportedly shut down for some period of time early this morning or last night after water leaked in at critical points. Besides that, there is some gargantuan, everlasting, epic escalator repair and or maintenance job going on. Here’s a pic of one of the escalators, all packed up and ready to serve nobody:

The biggest problem with the escalator being totally shut down is that hordes of outbound passengers clog the stairways as they exit the Red Line train at the station, making it darn near impossible for inbound passengers to reach the platform in the meantime. Is that a big problem? Not really, but it does annoy when you miss a train because of it.

Baseball is back, and perhaps Tim Wakefield’s knuckle ball will show up any week now. Coca Cola has put up a nice little display in Star Market/Shaw’s in Fenway:

It’s like Lego for the over-caffeniated, the over-carbonated, and the over-sugared. I like it, but I don’t know what retail merchandise display experts have to say about a display that almost looks like an art installation. You can look, but are you allowed to touch? Allow, schmallow, I grabbed a bottle anyway. Coke is it.

Speaking of Coke, Coca-Cola has unexpectedly produced a commercial that actually speaks to the greatness of the brand. I am of course thinking of the ad where the black kid bicycles through America (and Americana) while enjoying his refreshing beverage. Good stuff.
