Accident in Davis Square

“An elderly woman” was reportedly “hit by the bus” (those are actual quotes, not scare quotes) in Davis Square late this morning. I don’t know what condition the woman is in, if any. Here are some pictures from the scene:

Update: Somerville News has more.

Somerville Journal has the details:

Public safety officials said it was a very severe pedestrian accident and the elderly woman sustained very serious hip and leg injuries. She was taken to the Mass. General Hospital and is reported to be in critical condition.

At 5 p.m., authorities were still trying to identify the woman struck.Lt. Paul Upton from Somerville Police said she is a white female, about 70, between 5feet and 5 feet 2 inches tall. She was wearing a purple sweater and a multicolored housecoat under a black nylon coat and was probably coming from McKinnons Market on Elm Street.

“If anyone knows of anyone fitting description or saw her here around 11:30 a.m., please help us identify her,” Upton said.

Elm Street is a very safe street for pedestrians as long as they use the crosswalks. I’m quite surprised this happened.
