Sweet Seau! New England Patriots add a linebacker!
Junior Seau chucks retirement out the window and joins the New England Patriots.
Of course Mr. Seau isn’t quite the linebacker he was in the mid 1990’s, when he terrorized runningbacks and quarterbacks, often in the backfield for good measure, but he’s still a player who should be able to bring some hitting ability to our seriously weakened linebacker corps, especially on the inside. He’ll perhaps prove most valuable in allowing Bill Belichick and the rest of New England’s coaching staff to keep Mike Vrabel on the outside, where he can do more damage.
Here’s what New England’s Rodney Harrison has to say about Mr. Seau:
“I always talk about how Ronnie Lott was an idol of mine, how I tried to pattern my game after Ronnie,” Harrison said. “But it’s funny because I always tried to pattern my work ethic behind Junior. He’s probably the single most influential person in my professional career, just with his work ethic, commitment, dedication to the game, what it meant to him, how he worked, just everything.” Harrison and Seau played on the same defense for nine years in San Diego.
