“We really need to stick with the league rules…”
Yesterday’s press conference with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick produced a good joke, delivered by the coach himself:
Q: Is Tedy [Bruschi] ready to practice?
BB: We’ll put the injury report out on Wednesday. I think everybody is getting better. We’re coming along. We’ll see where we are on Wednesday. I know you’ve been anxiously awaiting that. I’d like to give it to you today, but we really need to stick with the league rules and just be compliant with all of your requests.
As Patriots fans remember, the coach was quite angered last year when the Atlanta Falcons seemingly abused the injury report to give New England the impression that quarteback Michael Vick was going to start against them. Instead, the job went to the back up, Matt Schaub, who’s a good deal more accurate but also a lot slower than the flashy Vick. The following week a clearly displeased Belichick put 14 of his players on the injury report.
