The AFC remains a cut above: Indianapolis Colts win Super Bowl 41, beat Chicago Bears 29-17
Indianapolis Colts are world champions after defeating the Chicago Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl 41. The Colts head coach Tony Dungy has secured his position as one of the NFL’s elite coaches, and Peyton Manning has strengthened his claim as the league’s best quarterback.
Indianapolis dominated the game but had a hard time finishing off drives and didn’t secure the victory until well into the 4th quarter when Chicago’s awful quarterback Rex Grossman finally did his team in with a couple of terrible passes that were intercepted, with one of them returned for a touchdown. Grossman also fumbled twice.
Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri had a rough night: First he lost the coin flip, then he missed a tackle when Chicago returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown, and then he missed an extra-point* after Colts first touchdown and finally he missed a field goal attempt, his only miss in the play-offs this year. He did, however, make three field goal attempts and two extra point kicks.
Peyton Manning won the MVP award. I thought rookie runningback Joseph Addai would get it thanks to his 143 yards - running and receiving - on 29 touches.
Congratulations, Indianapolis Colts, and thank you for defending the AFC’s colors.
*He didn’t actually miss it, it was a bad snap and hold that prevented him from kicking it.
