Storylines from the first week of New England Patriots 2007 training camp
Here are some of the storylines that have been prominent during the first week of New England Patriots 2007 pre-season training camp:
1) Wide receiver Randy Moss has generated far more media coverage than any other player at camp. He left the Wednesday afternoon practice early after hurting his right leg.
2) Wide receiver Jabar Gaffney - seen as a likely candidate for the final roster reduction going in to camp - has reportedly been shining while Donte Stallworth has been sidelined by injury. Kelley Washington seems headed for the big cut at this point.
3) Offensive tackles Ryan O’Callaghan and Nick Kaczur are fighting for the starting right tackle spot. Opinions are divided on who’s having the edge.
4) Linebacker Adalius Thomas is very impressive in all phases of the game (well, in all drills, I guess). The vast majority of his work has been inside, which makes sense since inside linebackers Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau are a bit long in the tooth and not as quick as they used to be.
5) Injuries have kept tight ends Kyle Brady, David Thomas and Garrett Mills (or is Mills a fullback?) off the field, leaving starter Ben Watson and newcomer Matt Kranchick to carry the full load.
6) Cornerback Chad Scott is out for the season with a knee injury.
7) Tom Casale of Patriots Football Weekly thinks Pierre Woods is coming on strong as a back up outside linebacker.
The Patriots have been drawing large crowds to their practices, including almost 8,000 last Sunday morning.
