Here’s how I rank New England Patriots offensive linemen in the pre-season game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 1) Nick Kaczur (RT/LT) 2) Stephen Neal (RG) 3) Dan Koppen (C) 4) Matt Light (LT) 5) Ryan O’Callaghan (RT) 6) Logan Mankins (LG) 7) Russ Hochstein (C) 8) Mike Elgin(LG/C/RG) 9) Wesley Britt (LT) 10) Brian Barthelmes [...]

New England Patriots lose pre-season opener, 13-10, to Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Friday, August 10th, 2007

New England Patriots lost the pre-season opener to Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 13-10, but the good news is that no starter was hurt. Nick Kaczur started at right tackle and the played left tackle with the second string unit, which I imagine means head coach Bill Belichick has him penciled in as a starter right now, [...]

A good Bed & Breakfast in Maine?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Jen Stewart is looking for one to visit in October and welcomes recommendations. I can’t help her myself because I’ve barely even been to Maine, but perhaps you can?

IKEA hacking should not be extended to coffee

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

IKEA hacking is what geeks call it when they repurpose furniture from IKEA, for example by turning the shelf Gorm into floor planks. Ingenious stuff. One should not, however, hack the foodstuff one can purchase in IKEA stores. In particular, one should not mix Löfbergs Lila coffee with Starbucks coffee, because the resulting beverage is [...]

Matt Light doesn’t suck and Logan Mankins isn’t a superstar

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

A not uncommon opinion among fans and observers of the New England Patriots is that Matt Light is a dog of a left tackle while left guard Logan Mankins is Pro Bowl material. I’m not convinced that either is correct. As left tackle, Light generally faces the best pass rusher the opposing team has, week [...]

Fierce competition on New England Patriots offensive line

Monday, August 6th, 2007

[November 3 update: Click here to read about the New England Patriots starting offensive line during the 2007 season.] The competition for roster spots among wide receivers is well know, but almost as intense is the fight for a roster spot on New England Patriots offensive line. Somebody, quite simply, has to go unless the [...]

By popular demand, New England Patriots third string quarterback Matt Gutierrez

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Yes, there’s demand out there for Matt Gutierrez content. Now, New England Patriots undrafted rookie free-agent third-string quarterback obviously hasn’t done much as of yet, but I did find a couple of pictures of him that I took during last Sunday’s early practice. In the photograph to the right you see him throwing the ball [...]

Storylines from the first week of New England Patriots 2007 training camp

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Here are some of the storylines that have been prominent during the first week of New England Patriots 2007 pre-season training camp: 1) Wide receiver Randy Moss has generated far more media coverage than any other player at camp. He left the Wednesday afternoon practice early after hurting his right leg. 2) Wide receiver Jabar [...]

Call it SomeShotSpotter

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

TV station WHAM reports on a drive-by shooting that may or may not have taken place in Rochester, New York. The story includes this little nugget: The police department’s ShotSpotter technology did not activate Saturday morning on Avenue A, although that’s common in drive-by shootings. Swell. More on ShotSpotter here.
