New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison suspended for violating NFL’s drug abuse policy

[Update: I guess it wasn't the substance abuse policy that Harrison violated, but some "performance enhancement policy" of the league]

If I had been asked to name ten New England Patriots players I thought most likely to use - or receive - performance enhancing substances I would have given you ten names and Rodney Harrison would not have been one of them. But today National Football League suspended New England Patriots safety Harrison four games for for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. [Update 9/1/2007:The Boston Heralds Point After blog has a transcript of an announcement Harrison made last night.

I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed or surprised because one should be neither when it comes to football players and performance enhancing drugs - just look at the players, for crying out loud - and I’ve never really seen athletes as appropriate role models anyway, but I do wish he had stayed away from them because now his and the team’s accomplishments have been irredeemably tainted.

No Drumlins is less sanguine about Harrison’s misstep (via Universal Hub).
