WJIB’s stop-sending-money drive
Like most Boston-area metal fans I listen to not only WBCN and WAAF but also WJIB,* the commercial-free one-man station that plays the dopest music from the 1940’s and 50’s. A few days ago I tuned in just in time to hear some announcements by that one man. He talked about the programming choices he’s made and why he’s made them and asked listeners to let him know whether he should stick with the current all-instrumental format from midnight to 5 am or work in songs as well even though doing so would increase the number of times they get played during other hours as well.
He also mentioned that while he is happy to receive donations of old records he is not able to drive places to pick them up.
And then he went on to make a plea I don’t think I’ve ever heard before: He asked people to stop sending money, saying that once the new year rolls around he will ask for money from his listeners but right now the station has the funds it needs, thank you very much. Quite a refreshing, I must say.
* That’s just my guess. It may be that, in fact, most Boston-area metal fans don’t listen to WJIB.
