Masa Restaurant – tequila and tapas in the suburbs

The missus and I went to Masa Restaurant on Cambridge Road in Woburn (across the parking lot from Whole Foods) the other night. The restaurant is located in the space that short lived Bear Rock Cafe used to be. Unlike Bear Rock, Masa offers its patrons something that’s quite a bit different from the usual suburban culinary universe of hamburgers, quesadillas and egg rolls. Masa’s menu is an Anglo-friendly Iberian-Mexican fusion that’s heavy on tapas and tequilas served in a fairly stylish setting for grown ups. As far as I’m concerned you can hold the tequila but tapas I like and Masa has ten different kinds of the latter (and scores of the former for you tequila lushes). Masa also has a full blown dinner menu with appetizers, main courses, and desserts, as well as many kinds of alcohol.

Not to be snobbish about it but I think Taberna De Haro on Beacon Street at St. Mary’s in Brookline has a stronger line up of tapas. However, if you don’t feel like driving into the city and battle for parking spots for the opportunity to wait 45 minutes for a table Masa is a perfectly good alternative.

There’s also a Masa Restaurant on Tremont Street in Boston.
