Leveraging the New England Patriots Connection to Bring Shoppers to Patriot Place

Patriot Place, the retail center next to the New England Patriots home field Gillette Stadium, is working pretty hard to drum up business. On Patriots Day, April 20 – which has nothing to do with the Patriots – shoppers were allowed to walk across the field at the stadium, the movie theater showed the Boston Red Sox game (a blow-out victory over the Baltimore Orioles), a band was playing outside of the Hall where Gil Santos and and Gil Cappelletti were signing autographs. The seasonally cold weather more or less destroyed the sidewalk sale that Patriot Place had promised: Only Old Navy and Sovereign Bank forced some poor souls to man tables outside. But overall the Patriots Day promotion seemed like a success. Red Robin was packed with people from noon on and fairly decent crowds descended on The Hall and the field. I’d say there’s strong possibility store owners weren’t too thrilled with the number of shoppers but these aren’t the best of times for stores. For most it’s a matter of survival.
