Patriots Gainfully Join the Twitter Bandwagon
It was only recently that the New England Patriots started using Twitter to communicate with the team’s fans but they are now fully embracing so-called micro-blogging as a way to communicate with the fans.
Realpatriots is the team’s main account. PATRIOTSdotCOM is announces new material on the Patriots web site. PatriotPlace promotes the Patriot Place retail center adjacent to Gillette Stadium while PatriotsProShop hawks merchandise in the Patriots paraphernalia store (funny tweet from the second day of the 2009 draft: “Ellis Hobbs jerseys have been marked down to $25″ after the team traded its starting veteran cornerback for two fifth-round draft picks). TheHall is the Twitter voice of The Hall at Patriot Place, a place that can best be described as a cathedral of sorts for us Pats fans.
The usefulness of tweeting done right was demonstrated by realpatriots during the draft. @realpatriots very, very quickly reported draft picks and trade details, the latter being information that is often passed along in a confused and muddled way.
This morning the Patriots’ Twitter accounts had the following number of users:
realpatriots 6,337 (largely thanks to a mention in the Boston Globe)
PATRIOTSdotCOM 1,589
PatriotPlace 306
PatriotsProShop 288
TheHall 131
