The 2010 Internet Holiday Shopping Season About to Unleash

The last three years haven’t been kind to retailers and every seasonal cycle has brought along the hope that it will mark the turnaround, only to have that hope dashed every time.

But at least the Thanksgiging to Christmas holiday shopping period will add mightily to top and bottom line for retailers who are going big on deals but remain careful with inventory.

Traditionally, the holiday shopping season started with the so-called early-bird door-buster events the day after Thanksgiving, but rise of the Internet shopping and the need for revenue and market share have fueled intense competition with deals and specials that starts a few days earlier.

So retailers like Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, Staples and K-Mart have loaded up with web pages that announce the coming of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and Facebook specials and Christmas Celebration Zone sales.

And, who knows, maybe this holiday season will be the turn-around point for retail.
