The good news in the Boston police corruption scandal

The Boston Police Department has been hit by a serious and potentially massive corruption and crime scandal. So far three officers have been arrested, but the investigation isn’t over. Here are the crimes the arrested officers are suspected of having been involved in:

…an intricate network of schemes that included stealing the identities of unsuspecting motorists, protecting truckloads of cocaine, smuggling illegal immigrants, and guarding after-hours parties where uniformed officers mingled with drug dealers and prostitutes.

The three officers were charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 100 kilograms of cocaine, but [U.S. Attorney Michael J.] Sullivan said additional charges are expected against them. If convicted on the current charges, the officers could each face 30 years to life in prison. The department suspended them with pay yesterday.

There’s some good news, though, in that the BPD anti-corruption hasn’t been corrupted:

The FBI launched its investigation of Pulido in November 2003 during an investigation into an East Coast identity theft ring, and almost immediately involved the Boston police anticorruption unit.

Notice by the way how the identity theft investigation quickly intersected with illegal alien smuggling.
